The Morse code alphabet maps each Latin letter (A–Z) to a unique pattern of short signals (dots / dits) and long signals (dashes / dahs). The chart on this page uses International Morse code — the ITU standard still used in amateur radio, aviation beacons, maritime backup signalling, and learning apps worldwide.
Unlike a static image, this Morse code alphabet chart is interactive: click a letter to hear its rhythm, switch to numbers or punctuation, copy the table, or type a word to see the full encoding instantly.
Every letter below is the official International mapping. Memorise by sound when you can — the play buttons above train recognition faster than reading alone.
| Letter | Morse | Letter | Morse |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | .- | N | -. |
| B | -... | O | --- |
| C | -.-. | P | .--. |
| D | -.. | Q | --.- |
| E | . | R | .-. |
| F | ..-. | S | ... |

Each digit uses exactly five symbols. Use the Numbers tab in the tool to hear them. Full dedicated numbers calculator coming on its own URL; the mappings below are already complete for reference and copy/paste.

Correct spacing is part of the alphabet’s meaning. If timing is wrong, letters blur together.
On this chart, WPM controls how fast those units play when you click a character or use Play all. Deep dive: Morse code timing.
International Morse assigns each Latin letter a unique dit/dah pattern so operators can send text by sound or light. It is a timing alphabet: meaning comes from element length (dot vs dash) and the gaps between elements, letters, and words.
Charts answer “what is the Morse for X?” Listening answers “what letter did I just hear?” Use play buttons here, then the quiz and practice trainer.
Group by structure: one-element (E, T), two-element mirrors (A/N, I/M), three-element (S, O, U, R, W, D, K, G), then longer letters. Frequency order (E, T, A, N, I, M, S, O…) beats alphabetical memorisation. Full path: learn Morse code.
Letters vary from 1–4 elements. Digits are always five — see Morse numbers. Procedural signals (AR, SK, BT) are continuous patterns — see prosigns, not this A–Z table.
Learn E (.), T (-), I (..), M (--), A (.-), N (-.), S (...), O (---) first. They appear often in English and teach dit/dah timing.
Group 1-signal, 2-signal, then 3–4-signal letters. Pattern families stick better than alphabetical lists.
Click letters here daily. Operators recognise rhythm (“di-dah”) faster than visual dots on a page.
Practice HI, SOS, YES, NO, CAT with the mini converter, then open the full Morse code translator for longer messages and light/audio practice. Use the practice trainer and Morse quiz to test recognition.
These lookalike pairs cause most beginner errors — listen for the whole rhythm, not a dot count.
.) vs T (-) — shortest pair; mix length, not count..-) vs N (-.) — mirrors of each other...) vs M (--) — two dits vs two dahs....) vs H (....) — three vs four dits; keep them even......) — five dits is the digit; letters stop at four for H.-...) vs 6 (-....) — digit adds one more dit.For timing rules (1:3 dit/dah and WPM), see Morse code timing.
A .- · B -... · C -.-. → together: .- -... -.-.
S = ..., O = ---, S = ... → ... --- ... (the international distress pattern).
